We talk a lot about how to build wealth on the More Money Podcast, but what happens when you've finally "made it"? In today's new episode with Kristin Keffeler, author of The Myth of the Silver Spoon, we're taking a look at the other side of money and what problems may arise after you've achieved 1% status.

Kristin Keffeler, MSM, MAPP is a human capital coach, family dynamics advisor, consultant, and thought leader at the forefront of today's global shift in wealth advising, Wealth 3.0. She's the founder of Illumination360, in which she specializes in human motivation, behavioural change, and family dynamics, and helps guide affluent and enterprising families, rising gen, and the professionals who support them. Her new book, The Myth of the Silver Spoon, unpacks the hidden traps of inherited wealth and real-life challenges facing those born into affluent families.

In today's episode, Kristin shares her story of being a part of a wealthy family and how that impacted her identity and career choices. She also shares what the term "rising gen" means and the most common challenges she helps them face. Kristin also shares why affluent parents need to approach parenting differently and the importance of teaching their kids character-building skills.

This week I have a return guest who last appeared on the show in 2016 (Episode 64)! Jason Vitug is back on the show to give an update on what he’s been up to these past 7 years, including all the details of his new book, Happy Money Happy Life–A Multidimensional Approach to Health, Wealth, and Financial Freedom.

Jason is a wellness advocate, bestselling author, entrepreneur, producer, and founder of the financial wellness website Phroogal. His first book, You Only Live Once: The Roadmap to Financial Wellness and a Purposeful Life explored how to get your financial life together through budgeting and money mindfulness. This time around Jason is tackling mental health and how it affects all aspects of our life, including money in his new book, Happy Money Happy Life.

In this episode, Jason shares the 8 wellness dimensions and how they relate to our mental and financial well-being. He also explains the difference between mental and emotional health and why he is a big advocate for mental health. I’m so happy to talk about such an important topic on the show and it was great to have Jason share the insights he gained from researching for his new book!

The Canadian financial industry can be overwhelming, there are so many different designations, plus what's the difference between a financial advisor and a financial adviser? To help answer some of these questions about the industry and more, I have a long-time financial planner and industry advocate Jason Pereira on the show today.

Jason Pereira is a CFA, CFP (in Canada and U.S.), RFP, TEP, FCSI, CIWM, PFP, and FMA, plus holds two degrees including his MBA. He's the founding President of the Financial Planning Association of Canada, a director of the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners, and a director of the Individual Finance and Insurance Decision Centre. He currently serves as a columnist and advisory board member of the Globe and Mail's Globe Advisor.

In this episode, Jason answers so many questions pertaining to the industry, including the difference between fee-only and no-fee advisors, how financial designations work in Canada, and what terrible advice to avoid at all costs. Jason also explains common misconceptions about investing that could help you come tax season and when planning for retirement.

I haven't done a solo episode in over a year, so I thought the perfect time to do one would be to help kick off a new season of the podcast. In this episode, I wanted to share how my 2023 got off to an odd start and how that led me to reflect on what I want from 2023 in both terms of my life and my business.

I’m also answering lots of questions that were asked over on my Instagram and my email list, including some personal ones like how I feel about my money, especially with a recession looming and interest rates continuing to rise. Other questions include, how to use a money windfall and how to talk to your partner about money in your relationship.

Even though we’re in February, it is never too late to set some goals and intentions for the new year, especially when your finances are concerned. I hope this episode helps to give you that post-January boost to keep going so that you can have a great year!

The More Money Podcast is back for Season 16! I can’t wait to kick off the new season by interviewing TWO guests, which is a rarity and one of the reasons that I’m so excited to share this episode at the top of the season! Jen Smith and Jill Sirianni, co-hosts of The Frugal Friends Podcast, are joining me today to talk about debt and why frugality is considered the bad F-word in finance.

Jen and Jill are no strangers to debt since they’ve paid off a combined total of nearly $140k with their husbands. They approached their debt differently than some of the typical financial advice you'll hear the "gurus" sharing, which proved to them that personal finance solutions are not always one size fits all. Jen’s journey even inspired her to write The No-Spend Challenge Guide, a best-seller on Amazon. They now host Frugal Friends Podcast to help people overcome their impulse spending and transform the habits that cause them to overspend to live a better, more financially free life.

In this episode, Jen and Jill share their debt journeys and the shame and guilt that comes with paying them off. We also talk about how habit-forming and learned behaviours from childhood play a big role in your finances. Lastly, Jen and Jill share why FOMO and social media can be a leading cause for overspending and how to counteract the need to spend by figuring out your "Why" for your money.
